In a world of remarkable products Brompton stands out.
It uniquely combines functionality, style, quality assurance, integration, reliability, riding enjoyment, performance, utility and comfort with superb foldability. Quite the mouthful but true nevertheless.
And not mere foldability but achieved in 10-20 seconds, with great ease and precision into an exceptionally small package: 11" wide x 22" long x 23" high (or exactly 270 mm x 545 mm x 565 mm).
Our customers take their Bromptons anywhere (not quite of course): On airplanes, stowed through narrow hatches in boats, on trains, even in car trunks as tiny as the Mazda Miata's, under desks at work, in closets, checked at the coat room at the opera, in shopping carts, on the lap riding the bus and probably a few other places they don't tell us about…
Of course tiny space is no requirement for enjoying a Brompton. Some of our customers fold away their Bromptons on board their mega yachts, in the bellies of huge commercial jets, in their land cruiser RVs, in their palatial homes while others just treasure the security of their bike being out of sight. Others may not fold their Bromptons that often but simply enjoy a highly accomplished, compact bike.
While some customers prefer to custom order we strive to also keep a selection of assembled, ready to go models in stock in our Seattle store.
You'll find below a few examples of models differentiated basis choice of handle bars, i.e. straight (S), traditional upright (M) or touring (P) and whether 2, 3 or 6 speed and rear rack (R). The prices are for 2010 models, for bikes in black or red color and without lights. Super light models are denoted -X.

Super light models include the following titanium parts: Rear frame section, front fork, pedal axle bolt, seat post and fender stays. (The main frame thus remains the classic steel alloy one). The following upgrades are incorporated as well: Alloy head set, lightweight front wheel (with double butted spokes) and front hub with an aluminum axle and extra high quality, sealed bearings. Close to 3 lb lighter a Super Light bike rides even more superbly than the regular models—say some.
Comes indeed in classic black but as well in numerous, modern colors including two-tones. See the decidedly un-staid Brompton color options. Also, check out this great Brompton color selection tool (for multi-colored steel bikes).
| Gear | : Gear Inches |
| 1 | :26 |
| 2 | :26 |
| 3 | :45 |
| 4 | :56 |
| 5 | :71 |
| 6 | :88 |
The table shows "gear inches" in lowest (1st) through highest (6th) gears.
1:26 means 26 gear inches in first gear with the bike traveling 2.3m = 7.5 ft per crank revolution. '6:88' means 88 gear inches in 6th gear with the bike traveling 7m = 23 ft per crank revolution.
The most commonly sold model in our Seattle store is the 6-speed with 12% lower gearing (i.e. with the 44T chain ring):
Note: Figures are approximate as the exact gear inches obviously vary with the outside tire diameter.
You can 'build' your own custom Brompton by using our convenient 'configurator'. To assure that the customer receives exactly the bike he or she expects it does not include a shopping cart ordering function. Instead please phone or email us if you are placing an order.
A special order incurs no extra cost over the same model in stock but involves waiting as each bike is custom built. How many weeks of waiting obviously depends on the factory order book at the time of placing your order. Once shipped from the London factory bikes make it to Seattle in less than a week.

Seen here are a few of our customers eagerly rushing for their Bromptons in anticipation of their invigorating daily morning commute.
Brompton Bicycle by David Henshaw tells the fascinating story of arguably the world's most accomplished and acclaimed folding bike. See Review pdf. Available also in our Seattle store come February. $25.
The Brompton comes in 16" wheels only. Please note that this nominal 16" wheel (with 1-3/8 tire) actually measures about 17" outside diameter.
The Brompton folds uniquely and quickly with the greatest ease into unequalled compactness: 11"(w) x 22"(l) x 23"(h).
See article about Jet Blue and Folding Bikes.
If after test riding and purchasing you prefer not to take you new bike with you we'd be glad to ship it within the U.S. The exceptionally sturdy and uniquely compact Brompton (11" wide x 22" long x 23") is obviously and superbly built to be shipped. We prep your bike in our Seattle shop, pack it with great care and double box. Within the contiguous 48 states the shipping charge is $55, more to AK and HI.
