20 Years Later
The early years of offering the uniquely 'human power augmented', a.k.a. electric, bike were predictably confounding, and even quixotic as we weathered evolving designs, service issues, an eclectic bunch of manufacturers as well as deflated sales expectations.
Our business turned the decisive corner in 2002 when Giant Bicycle Company agreed to 'Americanize' and then bring their fabulous Lite model to the U.S. market—resoundingly showing where global electric bike development was gratifyingly heading. We have since been able to participate also with several other manufacturers in bringing bikes of superior customer value to the market.
Since 1996 we have evaluated numerous brands and carried two dozen.
Of bike and power kit brands—currently offered—we started with Currie = iZip in 1996, Giant Bicycle Company in 1997, eZee Kinetics & BionX in 2006 and Stromer in 2011.
The doors of Folding Bikes West swung open in 2004. We have since been offering the Brompton, Dahon and Giant pedal-only brands with 16" and 20" wheels.
We offer electric folders as well: Kinetic Quando and iZip as well as installing power kits on Bromptons, Dahons and the Giant ExpressWay.
Customer satisfaction with bikes and kits bought and supported by us continues gratifyingly high. In the last few years just about all of our customers seem quite pleased with their purchases—and most even tell us so, thank you!
Our bikes and power kits have steadily been catching on among discerning customers from seemingly most walks of life. See Who Buys Electric Bikes? and Who Buys Folding Bikes?
We keep striving to provide an unhurried, informative, competent and enjoyable sales and service environment devoid of scripted greetings, canned sales talk, in your face pitches, cheesy promotions, yo yo-ing pricing, confounding specials and free trinkets.
