Currie Electric Bikes

Currie Technologies

We were one of Currie's first U.S. dealers dating back to the mid '90s. Subsequently we sold hundreds of Curries with thumb throttle control, chain drive and SLA (sealed lead acid) battery. Some are still running beautifully.

While our paths subsequently diverged we are now offering the 2010 Via Rapido and Via Urbano models—both rather with rear hub motors and Li-Ion batteries. These bicycle-akin new models are pedal-activated of the rotation sensing design, i.e. power stays on as long as pedaling (regardless of effort) is detected. Turning a twist grip increases power.

Pick up your new bike up in our store—expertly assembled, tuned and adjusted with a free new bike service (within 45 days) and ongoing service commitment included. We do not ship.

Currie Via Rapido Slope Electric Bike Currie Via Rapido Step Electric Bike

This new model, with a quiet 220 Watt rear hub motor rather than the chain drive 'outboard' one, provides a smoothly enjoyable riding experience. The pedal-activation system (of the rotation sensing kind) is easy to operate (adding extra oomph with a twist grip as needed). Lockable, quick-release 10 AH Li-Ion battery in the rear rack. Comes in 19" frame versions: The slope (men's) fits riders from about 5'6" and the step-thru (women's) riders from about 5'2". 700c wheels, 7-speed, fenders extra. $1,395.

Via Urbano Folder

Via Urbano Folder Bike

Here's Currie's brand new folder:

Stylish, zippy and light (45 lb with battery). An absolute delight to ride with or without power. Intuitively pedal activated with three power settings. Strong on hills. 220 Watt smooth and quiet rear hub motor. 15 mph.

Quick release 5 AH Li-Ion battery housed in the frame (top tube), chargeable on or off the bike. 20" wheels and 7-speed derailleur shifting. Folds with fair ease. Deep blue. $1,495, rack and fenders extra.

Express

Currie Express Electric Bike

'HC' or 'Hors Catégorie' or 'beyond category' is the term used in cycle races to rank a climb that is steeper and tougher than the numbered categories from Category 4 (easiest) to 1 (hardest).

A few years ago a remarkably advanced, pedal activated electric bike emerged in Switzerland: The Dolphin. Subsequently Currie' engineering team has worked with the Dolphin designers to come up with a U.S. version.

This $3,495, 750 Watt, 27 speeds model with an 18 AH Li-Ion battery obviously differs substantially from the other bikes we carry. A useful way may be to think of it as an 'HC' bike while the suggestion is not that it shall actually crest the worst of Tour de France mountains.

The Express is a performance bike that should appeal to the athletic rider riding fast as well as those looking for a swift and gorgeous bike that can maintain the legal 20 mph on easy terrain over great distance as well as resoundingly 'flatten' steep hills.
