The electric bike is an emerging new category of vehicle for those of us who enjoy pedalling.
The 'electric' bike is best described as 'human power augmented' as in blending human and motor power. Herein lies its uniqueness, utility and exceptional riding enjoyment. (After all numerous things are merely electric be they elevators, can openers or hair dryers).
While uses are numerous by cyclists of all ages and proficiency the electric bike is above all about the exceptionally enjoyable riding experience. See also Who Buys Electric Bikes.
The electric drive system is designed to be near-maintenance free and the rest is a quality bicycle with standard bicycle parts.
The law regards the 'electric-assisted' (WA state) or 'motorized bicycle' (CA state) as a non-motorized vehicle and as a bicycle. Read what Washington and California state laws stipulate. Laws in other states and local ordinances are similar. Federal law PL107-319 in the U.S. (and a corresponding in Canada) defines the electric-assisted bicycle as a non-motorized vehicle (i.e. bicycle) and places it under the jurisdiction of the Consumer Protection Commission (rather than DOT).
eZees are for the American customer who is looking for smooth, quiet power and swift acceleration. eZee offers a remarkable selection of distinct, fully equipped models. The eZee Kinetic Technology Company is a specialized manufacturer of high end electric bikes. We have imported eZees since 2006.
Our cooperation with Giant Bicycle Company dates to the 90's selling the LAfree Sport and subsequently participating in the introduction of the highly acclaimed Lite in 2002 and the SuedeE in 2005. We now expect to offer the next model, the much anticipated Giant Twist, in our stores on or about May 28th.
See our Electric Bike Comparison Table.
The zippy and comfortable eZee Quando folds quickly and crisply to 17 x 30 x 34". It weighs 41 lbs (after sliding out the lockable, quick-release battery, which takes only seconds).
Check out the eZee Carro. If you are looking for a serious trike, its specification should speak for itself.
Our experience over many years with kits versus fully integrated electric bikes has resoundingly biased us in favor of the latter. We no longer sell, install or service kits and are not in a position to recommend any kits or refer to vendors hereof.
Our brick-and-mortar Seattle WA and Oceanside CA stores typically stock a selection of Bike Friday and Brompton models. The Seattle store additionally stocks the Birdy and Halfway (by Giant Bicycle). Bikes are also routinely shipped throughout the U.S. We prep your bike before shipping: "Just un-pack, un-fold and ride!"
Our service departments bring extensive bicycle and electric drive system experience to the job and take great pride in their work. Our primary focus is on assuring first class, prompt service and long term support for all of our own bike customers whether near or far from our stores.
Parts are covered for 6-24 months (including free initial labor) and frames for 5 years. Warranties differ somewhat between brands. Please check the specific page for details.
We offer bicycle and drive system spare parts, batteries, chargers and bicycle accessories. See our Parts page for details.
We ship some of our products within the U.S. and have done so routinely since 1996. Please check Pricing and the product pages for details. We do not export.
A to B magazine is THE publication to read for anyone interested in
folding bikes, electric-assisted bikes and public transportation (with
the focus on riding as well as carting one's bike). Established,
reputable and competent enough to be highly relevant, small and
independent enough to be refreshingly irreverant. Each issue includes
in-depth reviews of new products, topical articles, extensive
correspondence from riders, accounts from shows, bikes for sale
resources and more—all delivered with a good deal of humor (albeit of
the British kind) and opinion.
A free trial issue of the digital edition is now available.
